Here’s your opportunity to answer this in the comment section. You must rely on Scripture, but if you think there is no requirement of a symbol, that also would be part of your reply.

I Corinthians 11 clearly states that a man's hair is to be short because of his authority over the woman & his submission to the Lord's authority, & he is not to cover his head with a hat or whatever. Of course, the reverse is stated for women: she is to have long hair & possibly some type of covering to show her submission. In both I Timothy 2 and I Peter 3 a woman shows her submission to the Lord in her church & in her home by not wearing worldly clothing or exotic hairstyles. Just off the top of my head, that I what I come up with. There are probably others, but it is early on Monday morning.
Believing women have worn head coverings for millenia.
Gen. 24:65; Num. 5:18; 1 Cor. 11:5-6,10.
I agree with Gary Webb on I Cor 11, except for the hair/hat, I say wedding ring.
I should have added "for married women".
Hi Bro. d4v34x,
Why a ring instead of say a cumberbund, broach, or scarf?
Hi John, because in our culture the ring is a symbol of the marriage bond and those others aren't. Similar, as I understand it, to the covered head being a symbol of the marriedness of ladies in the culture Paul was writing to.
But my opinion is only lightly studied.
Thanks for the reply Bro. d4v34x.
It seems 1 Cor. 11: 1-4, 7-9, 11-16 all argue for a universal application instead of a cultural application. History seems to reflect this as women today still wear headcoverings (and HC's were quite prevalent just a century ago). Is just the female part cultural? Would you allow me to wear a hat in your church and pray?
