The Tale of Two Cities: Newtown, CT and West Philadelphia, PA

On December 14, 2012 in the village of Sandy Hook in Newtown, Connecticut at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, deranged sociopath Adam Lanza stole his mother’s semi-automatic weapons to murder twenty children and six adults after having murdered his own mother and then taking his own life.   Rightfully so, the national media blanketed this tragedy for weeks and months.  It was covered by all the major networks.  It brought to the forefront the protection and safety of children.  Federal, state, and local politicians used the calamity to start a debate on gun control and a call for legislation for the sake of protecting children.  It’s still in the news every day.

On January 19, 2011, Kermit Gosnell was arrested and charged with eight counts of murder of seven babies born alive and one woman patient at a woman’s health clinic in West Philadelphia, PA.  A number of clinic employees already pled guilty to similar charges in other trials, including snipping the spines of babies, testifying that it was standard practice at the clinic.  As of April 2013, Kermit Gosnell is on trial for these acts.  The national media has been silent about this horror for months and months.  It hasn’t been covered at all by all the major networks until very, very recently and very little.  You have heard nothing from major politicians and government leaders about protection of children.  There is little to no outrage.  It seems few care.

Is the concern the protection of children?  Or is the protection of children merely a prop for gun control?  Wouldn’t the people talking about violence against children be at the forefront of both these tragic stories?

  1. An insane asylum run by the inmates, "men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith" (2 Timothy 3:8), without understanding, without natural affection, unmerciful, and therefore "knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them" (Romans 1:32). They deserve the wrath, condemnation and hatred of the Almighty God, but the Lord God is LONGSUFFERING willing that none should perish, but all come to repentance.

The problem is all of this is the Christians are affraid to stand in the highways and byways (city hall, school meetings, etc.) reproving them of sin, righteousness and judgment to come.
